ABSTRACT : A moderate earthquake shook the ancient city of Yogyakarta and its surrounding areas on May 27,2006. The magnitude was 6.3 Richter Scale or VIII MMI Scale had killed and wounded thousands of people, also destroyed thousands of buildings (most of them were classified as non-engineered buildings). Caused by the low qualities of material and structural system that do not meet the minimum requirements of earthquake resistant building code. For meeting that requirements, especially main elements must have a high ductility to against the Earthquake Force. This matter can be reached by using the steel as strengthening toward the brittle material. By the revolutionary concept of Earthquake-Resistant Housings today is Knock-Down System, the steel is suitably, remembering the steel can be disassembled and assembled. In this research using Lightweight Cold-Formed as the main proponent structure component produced by PT Bluescope Lysaght Indonesia. The application of main structure (frame and truss) is as wooden structure material substitute that usually used. The research of the Earthquake-Resistant Buildings was held to research object such as; Frame structure and Joint from Smartframe steel which is loaded with cyclic loading on strong direction to find out the effectiveness of frame system from the strength, the ductility level, the damage term, and the stability of smart frame beamcolumn joint when accepting the earthquake load. The approach of the earthquake load was conducted by using cyclic loading based on ASTM 2126-02a to find out frame characteristics, such as; Load-Displacement Relation, Failure Pattern, Drift Ratio, Stiffness, Maximum Shear Strength, Damping and Ductility. The designed earthquake loading given is based on The Indonesian Earthquake Resistant Building Code (SNI 03-1726-2002) by taking the earthquake zone 6 for the soft soil. From the result of the research was gotten the stress happened on the Individual T Joint or at the Frame each cycle is linear elasticity. The improvement capacities resist the stress after the Joint as unity to Frame about 455,5% at column and 245,79% at beam. The first failure pattern object test was happened in hole screw along with the accretion of load in each cycle. From the experimental test and numerical analysis shown that frame from the C 75.100 profile with crosswise bracing could be exist at the earthquake zone 6 for the soft soil with neglected the imperfection of the material.
